Authentic Malvani Chicken Curry – Taste of Konkan in Every Bite!

Special Malvani Masala Chicken Curry (Authentic Recipe)

A rich, spicy, and aromatic coastal-style chicken curry made using traditional Malvani masala. Perfect with bhakri, rice, or chapati.

Ingredients:

For Malvani Masala (Dry Roast & Grind)

* 2 tbsp coriander seeds
* 1 tbsp cumin seeds
* 1 tsp fennel seeds
* 8–10 dried red chilies (Byadgi + spicy mix)
* 1 tsp black pepper
* 4 cloves
* 1-inch cinnamon stick
* 2 black cardamom
* 1 tsp turmeric powder
* 4 tbsp grated dry coconut (khobra)
* 1 small onion (sliced & dry roasted)
* 6–8 garlic cloves

Dry roast all ingredients (except turmeric) until aromatic, cool, then grind into a fine powder. Add turmeric while grinding.

For Chicken Curry

* 500 gm chicken (cleaned)
* 2 tbsp oil (preferably coconut oil)
* 1 large onion (finely chopped)
* 1 tomato (optional, finely chopped)
* 2 tbsp prepared Malvani masala
* 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
* Salt to taste
* 1/2 tsp turmeric
* Fresh coriander leaves

1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté chopped onions until golden brown.
2. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook until the raw smell disappears.
3. Add chopped tomato (optional) and cook until soft.
4. Add turmeric and 2 tbsp Malvani masala, roast for 1–2 minutes.
5. Add chicken pieces and mix well with masala.
6. Cook for 5–7 minutes on medium flame.
7. Add water as required for gravy and salt to taste.
8. Cover and cook for 20–25 minutes until chicken is tender.
9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Serve hot with:

* Bhakri (jowar/rice)
* Steamed rice
* Chapati
